Every application dictates its own technical requirements. A valve specified for steam service is not selected in the same manner as one engineered for thermal oil, aggressive chemicals, or slurry-laden fluids.
On any industrial project in Canada, pressure equipment compliance must be verified right from the equipment selection stage. A valve that is technically suited for the process can still become unusable if the applicable regulatory requirements have not been factored in.
Depending on the type of equipment, the province, and the specific installation, a Canadian Registration Number (CRN) may be required under CSA B51. Registration is administered by the regulatory authorities in each jurisdiction, such as the RBQ in Quebec, the TSSA in Ontario, or the ABSA in Alberta. A European PED certification does not automatically replace Canadian regulatory requirements.
For valves, accessories, and pressure-retaining components, compliance must therefore be verified based on the product, the manufacturer, the provincial jurisdiction, and the service conditions. A CRN registered in one province is not necessarily applicable across Canada.
VAMECA assists industrial teams with this critical upstream validation: verifying CRN availability by manufacturer and product family, selecting engineered solutions, and coordinating the required project documentation.
